Timeline of Project Progress.
WEEK |
TASK |
SOLUTION/APPROACH |
1- |
Further reading of previous reports and user guide. Briefing on scope of project with Dr Jagtap. |
Familiarization with model- problems encountered with running in batch mode though the user interface was running ok. |
Problems with programs on the CD, can’t read ‘read-only’ files. |
2- |
Construct input files to produce daily output |
Modification of season, soil types from previous data sets |
Problem with running some input files |
Text editing tended to cause problems, FORTRAN code space/position sensitive, input.dat edited in MS-DOS using program provided by Dr. Jagtap. Re-writing of some input files |
3- |
Run input files to produce the daily output- debugging of input code |
Modify large Output Files |
Post processing code developed, that operated on the output.dat file. Produced time step of daily water output budget and displayed the relevant parameters that defined the input file. Placed the 2 years of data across all soils in excel format. |
4- |
Analysis of SRWMD pump data. |
Relevant parameters |
Extraction from Output files |
Extract irrigation amounts from the AFSIRS data that corresponds exactly to the analysis period that SRWMD used. |
Within most crops planting date and harvest date were similar, hence initial analysis was farm by farm. Data was extracted that: a) fell within the planting season b) fell within the SRWMD initial and final read dates. |
Relocation to the university |
Problems with Melon and Tobacco
Re-writing of input files |
Unexpected results. |
On request length this was later changed to a more general planting/harvest date. New post-processing code was developed that made analysis easier. Separated 97 and 98 output (rather than putting it side by side in excel) |
5- |
Calculate necessary water estimates |
Approach to produce table similar to that of SRWMD |
Focus on Gallons/Acre and Gallons/Acre/day |
Statistical analysis |
Adjustment/unexpected results. |
Error analysis of SRWMD, problems possibly due to number of days of irrigation. Recalculation of season length- farm-by-farm analysis for individual crops. |
