Telemerty- MD9 / RAVEN II

• The test which had been conducted in the Lab, before taking all the equipment to the field had been done for some time, but I have to say that it was a short test, less than 48 hours. We should try to conduct the test for some more duration of time. This may give us some indications for future work.

• Other suggestion, much more complicated, is look for the right instrument to look and analyze the data transfer between MD9 and Raven. This way we can discover why and when the data transfer fails.But I think this would take long and discover a bug or a capacity problem in the MD9/Raven configuration. But its not a bad idea to come up with some positive results for the project.

• Campbell Scientific had been suggesting different solutions but it never proved successful. We need to try to pressure Campbell to give us the configuration of an existing MD9 network, currently working with the highest density of MD9 and highest amount of data traffic, using Raven as a link, to compare with the one proposed for Kirton Ranch.

• Talking on this issue with Campbell Scientific and the people concerned. Would be able to get some informations soon and would  then document the progress  as soon as some progress has been made on this issue.

• Campbell Scientific unable to give any network configuration similar to the Ranch using Raven and to be used MD9. They are just trying to skip from this issue.

• Contacted the Charlie Mondale at Locher Environmental Technology. Had been in touch for a while . Received an email from him that he is interested to test the system and consult with Campbell Scientific to troubleshoot the issue.

I have been in contact with Campbell Scientific and they said this should work.  I would be happy to test it for you and see what is going on. If you can send me the MD9's and terminators with the Raven II modem I will test the system and work with CSI to find the problem.

• As I mentioned earlier that if we could find a device which could check the transfer rate then this would give a direction towards the problem.

     Looked for some device which could help in some way .

           The serial line monitor (Device) monitors the status of the individual lines of the 9 pin/conductor cable. 

When a line is high or active the LED for that line lights up.  It can monitor the activity between the Raven and MD9 but we would need to watch it and understand what it is telling us.  It does not have the ability to see what is being transmitted or log that information.  With this device, what we would be looking for is whether a line is high or low as expected and from that information know what may be happening incorrectly at the site.

        WEB SERVER

• Received the Dell Computer Last week for the Web Server at Gainesville Office Location.

• Tried to download Linux- Red Hat 9.0 operating system from www.redhat.com. This turned out to be impossible, as it was fairly large (3 CD’s) and the download kept timing out and failing due to problems with out Internet connection . After numerous downloads attempts concluded to purchase the RedHat 9.0 operating system from Best Buy on 06-13-03.

• Working on initial settings and installations. More details can be found on the following website.

The Basic Installation and Setup completed. The Web Server Has been connected in the LAN and is able to go online.

More configuration setting needs to be done as per the requirement . Working on this issue.

After working on this concluded that its not working fine.

The Configurations and settings done earlier did not prove to be efficient enough.So this weekend (06.21.03 - 06.23.03) I had to uninstall and go through the whole installation and settings.

Its working fine now. Apcahe Running, My Sql running .

Able to go online properly.

Major Tasks pending : Getting Static IP address , Domain Issues, Final setting  to run efficiently as web server.

Today(06-25-03) I am trying to use the Modem in connecting directly to webserver. Till now we had been using Router so we didn't use USB Modem provided by Bell South .
I wanted to try if i could use the Dynamic IP to host the web page to try once. Need to have Drivers to support Red Hat 9.0 which the Bell South  doesn't provide.  This seems to be difficult as Bell South Software  does have Red Hat 9.0 drivers . But I would prefer to give a try once. By tomorrow I would be giving you a conclusion on this issue.
Its just a try to test but finally we would be needing a Static IP.

It had been very challenging working on this issue. I personally never had any idea if this could work as it seemed me to be not possible as I had to face a lots of complications and issue concerned with this.

But I had to take this as a challenge .

Just kept thinking all the

                                       "Why's" "Why's" Why's" and then "How" "How" and "How"

and kept working . Finally today (06-26-03, 4:50 am ) it worked.

Right now a test web page has been hosted. Its just a test page to try if the web server is working. Its working using dynamic IP address.

Received Static IP address on 07.09.03 from Bell South.

Tried to start a windows application on RED HAT 9.0. Had been able to run some applications on Red Hat 9.0.Used WINE for this purpose.

PC208W started but the screen gets Freezed when this starts . So it could be that PC208W is not compatible to work with WINE. Still in process to troubleshoot and trying to make this work.

Apache and Internet doesn't work together ....Amazing issue , Never heard of this.Tried to do possible. Even formatted the Web server and still no progress.

Finally able to resolve the issue on 07.25.03. Now it can work fine.

Router after so much of efforts , is working perfectly fine. Successfully completed on 06-17-03

1. New Firmware uploaded – version 4.7.

2. Able to have Remote Management- Using this the authorized person can access the router to check if required.

3. Port Forwarding successful.: This concept proved to be really successful for the web  server . Able to host test webpage using dynamic IP address . Apart from this I used this for FTP-port 21, which really worked good and didn't effect the connection speed as before.

4. Log Reports work fine- This gives the information of the computer access during office hours.

5. Able to Block Sites during Office Hours.
