Introduction

Dr. John Capece and Southern DataStream offers intern and visitor programs to qualified U.S. and international students and young professionals.  This Florida internship and visitor program is managed in cooperation with Intellitemps, Inc. and Intelligentsia International, Inc.. Individual programs are developed for participants based upon their academic/professional background and career goals.
Southern DataStream (SDS) is not your typical internship and visitor environment.   SDS is not the place for you if you seek a traditional company with generous funding and a formal environment.  SDS is a very small company and office consisting of Dr. Capece a couple of assistants, and many interns/visitors.   It is the corporate umbrella organization under which Dr. Capece pursues his interests in environmental sustainability, international development, and higher education.
The participants do not serve under the supervision of a person doing exactly the same job as the intern.  Instead, the participants are placed in a position where they must bring their educational experience to a group setting and contribute their own unique expertise to the team.  Dr. Capece provides direction and guidance, but participants have considerable freedom and responsibility to apply their own creative talents and energies to their assignments.  While there is a degree of independence, there is still an expectation of high productivity.  The result is an internship and visitors experience that helps the participants grow as both individuals and professionals as they witness how their talents and skills can contribute to a multi-disciplinary  team.  This program is not a "traineeship", rather it is an opportunity for hard work and exploration of one's potential in a diverse atmosphere with others transitioning to their professional future.
The intern and visitor participants live together in a close-knit atmosphere within a couple of dormitory houses.  This mix of nationalities and individuals brings with it various benefits and complications of working and living with people of differing cultures and backgrounds.  Together they take recreational trips to visit various parts of Florida. Participants have come from many nations.  All nationalities are welcome to apply but those coming from overseas must be prepared to secure the appropriate visa.

There are two types of support arrangements:

(1) self-supported and
(2) dual-supported.

In your application, you must select one of these support options.  These support options differ in their financial arrangements as described below.

(1) Self-supported

Self-supported internship and visitor applicants have a very good chance of being invited  for an internship provided that sufficient housing and office space is available to accommodate the student.  The participant receives no salary or other payments.  Monthly cost to the intern for housing, utilities, and basic transportation is $450 per month.  This $450 per month is paid by the intern to Intelligentsia International, Inc.  Self-supported applicants are given first priority for the available internship positions.

(2) Dual-supported

A student on a dual-supported program receives the housing from Intelligentsia International, Inc. at no cost.  A dual-supported intern or visitor does not receive any other payment, salary, or stipend.  Under this arrangement, Intelligentsia provides the housing but the student covers food and all other personal expenses.
